CBD & dosages can be seriously confusing when you start out. All those mg's and percentages% and droppers and drops. Where do you even begin?
But, it doesn't have to be this confusing. We will explain how to start off taking your first dose of CBD in 5 steps below.
Please make sure you read the 3 basic rules if you haven't read it yet.
We do want to say upfront, we will make this as clear as possible but finding the right dose for you takes time, commitment and consistency.
CBD dosage: how much should I take?
No one can recommend the right dose for you because every body is unique. There are so many factors that come into play such as your bodyweight, the different ways you take CBD, your sensitivity to CBD, the functioning of your endocannabinoid and on and on and on... so please, give it time to work this out.
Some people report feeling nervous about taking CBD for the first time. There's really no need to be! You cannot overdose on this like you can on prescription drugs. Remember this is a natural plant compound! But we still advise you to start off low and let your body adjust.
Saying all that, here's our simplified 5 step guide to get you on your way.
Choose your strength
CBD is sold in bottles of both percentages (e.g. 5% CBD) or amount in milligrams (500MG). If you are buying CBD in milligrams, make sure to pay attention to the size of the bottle. 500MG in 10ml bottle is 5% but in a 30ml bottle is only 1.7%.
Below is a guide only based on 10ml bottle:
||0 - 500mg
||5% - 10 %
||500mg - 1000mg
As a general rule, mind problems like sleep or anxiety, might be low - medium dosages but chronic pain and other illnesses will be higher strength.
Choose your dosage
As explained above, we cannot give you a recommended dose. It really depends on what you are using the CBD for and your body.
Just remember the golden rule is - start slow, go low. Little steps over time.
Things that will affect your dosage include
- The results you are looking for
- The concentration of CBD in the bottle
What you are trying to do is find your 'sweet spot': the minimum dose you take where you feel an effect. Less is definitely more. You want to start low and work up to you start feeling some symptom reduction. It's a slow and gradual process. If you take too much, you will just undo the affect of the CBD.
To give you a starting place, we recommend for the very first time, 8MG
Please note is an informational guide only - a starting point of reference - and should not be considered medical advice.
- Take half dose (4MG) in the morning and the other half (4MG) in the evening.
- Take this for 4 - 5 days
- Start increasing your dose (add another 4MG) for next 4 -5 days and move to step 5.
Plan your new CBD routine.
So you've figured out what strength you're going to take and how much, next up - when are you going to take it?
There are a few different approaches to taking CBD: taking it throughout the day as a 'microdose' or taking one standard dose at some point in the day. i.e. instead of 20mg in morning, you might take 5mg at 4 different times during the day.
Microdosing is becoming an increasingly popular way to take CBD. The theory is when you microdose on CBD oil, you will spread the therapeutic effects of CBD over the day.
Once you've decided your strategy, plan out your new CBD routine: pick the time (s) of day and when you are going to take it. For example, you might plan out:
- I will take 4mg of water soluble CBD in my orange juice in the morning
- I will take 4mg of oil sublingually after my lunch
- I will drink hemp tea 30 minutes before bed at night
Take your CBD
Now you've decided when you take your CBD, then take your CBD!
Drop oil under tongue, hold it there for up to at least 1 minute (we usually do 2 - 3 minutes! ) before swallowing. This is the quickest way for it to work as it goes directly into your bloodstream so you should start seeing effects in 5 - 20minutes.
Experiment, evaluate & readjust
View getting the perfect dosage of CBD oil as an experiment, one that you are committed to and in for the long game. Experiment with the dose, evaluate how you feel and readjust dose up or down depending on your own body and your
own intuition on this.
No-one can advise you.
You are your own best judge of
Ask yourself: how do I feel? Is this helping my symptoms?
Remember you will need to take CBD consistently, for at least 2 weeks daily for it to build up in your body before making a decision
